United Way invites public to its new digs
United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties welcomes the public to an open house at its new office space at 2504 Aga Drive.
The event will take place Thursday, May 20 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 pm. This is the former Bellanca building next to the Alexandria Airport.
The move to this location has made it possible for United Way to house and implement community impact projects while providing more efficient operations of current programs.
Previously, the organization was using storage wherever it could. Having it all under one roof is much more efficient, according to United Way leaders.
As a result of the additional space, the United Way now has more room for volunteers to work on projects such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library registrations.
In addition, it has room for donated items such as coats, school supplies, garden produce and other items that come into the United Way.
The facility also has a conference room that's available to non-profits to conduct their meetings.
The new location also offers better parking space and the office is handicapped accessible.
Extra office space has also been leased to other non-profit organizations such as the Alzheimer's Resource Center and the Boy Scouts.
United Way leaders invite residents to stop in to tour the facility and to learn more about the services United Way's Community Impact Coalition is working on.
United Way's goal is to create long lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place. For more information, visit www.uwdp.org or call (320) 763-4840.
