United Way drive collects 350 coats in Pope County
The United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties just completed its second annual coat drive and distribution in Pope County.
Coats were collected in Pope County at Eagle State Bank, Glenwood State Bank in Glenwood, First National Bank and Bremer Bank in Starbuck, and at Minnewaska Elementary School.
More than 350 coats were collected along with boots, caps and mittens. Coats were distributed on two different days, October 31 and November 3, at Minnewaska Elementary School.
Many people came to pick up gently used or new winter clothing. The remaining coats were given to The Salvation Army in Morris for distribution.
A similar coat drive and distribution was held in Alexandria in which 900 coats were given away.
