Two people were injured in a house fire near Garfield Christmas Eve morning.

They are Darrell and Judy Williams, who live at 8255 County Road 8 NW, Garfield.

Shortly after 5 a.m., Darrell Williams, wearing only his pajamas and socks, ran over to his neighbor’s house and pounded on the door, saying that his house was on fire, according to the neighbor, who called 911.

Judy Williams was in the garage and was helped out by firefighters.

They both were suffering from burns and smoke inhalation and were transported to the Douglas County Hospital, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Darrell Williams was transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center and his condition is not known. Judy Williams was transferred to St. Cloud Hospital and she was listed in good condition.

The house is a complete loss. The cause is under investigation.

The fire happened along County Road 8 (the Barrett Road), just west of the intersection with County Road 40. The Garfield Fire Department received mutual aid from Brandon. The sheriff’s office and North Ambulance also responded.

Portions of County Road 8 were shut down as a result of the fire.
