Two Blue Anchors named all-stars as Alex drops sixth straight
The Alexandria Blue Anchors had two players named to the North Division All-Star team as Jordan Lee and Andrew Thome will represent the local club at the game, which will be played on July 22 at 6:45 p.m. at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisconsin.
Lee is hitting .354 in 99 at-bats for Alexandria this summer with 17 runs scored and 15 RBIs. Thome is 2-0 on the mound with a 2.32 ERA in 38 2/3 innings pitched this season. He has 32 strikeouts and 22 walks during that span.
Mankato and Waterloo had the most all-star selections from the North with five each. The Madison Mallards had six players named to the all-star team from the South side.
The Blue Anchors are in the midst of a six-game losing streak that has dropped them to 2-8 in the second half of the season. Their offense continues to struggle after getting shut out in a 4-0 loss to Rochester on Friday night. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when the Honkers pushed all four of their runs across. Three Rochester pitchers combined to scatter seven hits in the shutout.
That wasted a good start by Alexandria's Sean Stutzman. The Dallas Baptist lefthander allowed just one hit in five innings of work and lowered his ERA to 1.77 in the process. He dominated the Rochester lineup, fanning eight before Sean Terres came on in the sixth and was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in two innings.
Alexandria is 11-33 overall and will be in Thunder Bay tonight for a 5:05 first pitch in the first of a two-game series against the Border Cats.
