Turnovers never gave the Osakis boys a chance against Melrose on Saturday afternoon.

The Silverstreaks gave the ball away 17 times in the first half and had just 15 field-goal attempts during that span. That led to a 73-29 loss that sent Osakis into the Christmas break with a 3-6.

Nobody had more than Haden Hendricks’ six points for the Silverstreaks. Zach Weir, Cody DeWenter, John Boogaard and Drew Fearing each added four points apiece as Osakis shot just 27 percent (12-of-44).

Melrose had no such issues. The Dutchmen upped their record to 3-3 behind 60 percent shooting from the field (32-of-53). A lot of those came in transition as Melrose turned Osakis over in the opening half. That led to a 49-8 lead at the break.

Tyler Braegelmann led Melrose with 13 points, while Ben Klaphake poured in 14. Osakis will have off until Saturday when the Silverstreaks travel to Battle Lake to take on a 7-0 Battlers team.
