Train rear-ends vehicle traveling along tracks near Bluffton
A car traveling in between two sets of railroad tracks was struck by a freight train early Saturday, but the driver suffered no apparent injuries.
The accident happened at about 4:30 a.m. at a train crossing near Highway 10 and County Highway 143, west of Bluffton, Minn.
According to a news release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office, a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero was traveling eastbound in the area of the railroad bed, between the two sets of parallel tracks, not meant for vehicular travel.
The train crew observed the vehicle, applied the train's brakes heavily and used the train's horn, but was unable to avoid the collision. The eastbound freight train struck the rear of the vehicle.
The driver, Kimberly Dawn Preuss, 28, of New York Mills, Minn., was extricated from the vehicle. She was taken by ambulance to Tri-County Hospital and released a short time later.
Alcohol was a factor, and charges for driving while intoxicated are pending against Preuss, the news release said. She was the lone occupant of the car.
