Tipped by residents, police arrest burglary suspects

Two people were arrested Saturday for their alleged involvement in a burglary.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, authorities received calls about a burglary-in-progress at 514 5th Avenue East in Alexandria.

According to Alexandria Police Department, after stealing several items from inside the residence and loading those items into their vehicle, the suspects – a man and woman, both from Alexandria – got into the vehicle and left the area.

Officers stopped the vehicle several blocks away and both were taken into custody. The suspects are Michael Sandgren, 23, and Ashley Pederson, 29.

The vehicle reportedly contained numerous items of property from inside the residence that had been burglarized.

No one was home when the burglary happened, police reported. The owner of the residence is known to the suspects and this was not a random act, according to authorities.

In a news release, Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels expressed his department’s appreciation for the citizens who called law enforcement when they noticed suspicious activity.
