The Alexandria tennis team hosted three other programs for its annual home invite and the Cardinals went 1-2 after beating Litchfield and falling to Crookston and Becker on Saturday.

“It was a very successful day for the guys,” head coach Dave Ronning said. “Although we only won one of the three matches, the guys played hard and competed well against some very good competition.”

The Cardinals got their day started with a 6-1 win over Litchfield. Alexandria swept the doubles lineup with the duos of Andrew Storm and Jack Schneider, Codi Hoffman and Lucas White and Chase Hovel and Graham Hegstad all earning wins.

They also took the first three matches in the singles lineup to secure the team win. Devon Crowe won at first singles, while Mark Kallevig and Brendan Holm won in straight sets at the second and third singles spots, respectively.

Alexandria almost got another win in a 4-3 loss to Crookston. Kallevig and Hegstad won at second and fourth singles, respectively. Holm and Nick Partington also won at first doubles in a 7-5, 6-3 match, but Crookston had a little bit more at the other four spots. Alexandria came close at first singles, where Crookston’s Bobby Tiedemann edged Crowe in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 7-3.

The final match of the day saw Becker secure a 5-2 win over the Cardinals with Alexandria’s wins coming at the second and third doubles spots. Payton Grandgenett and Storm won 6-2, 3-6, 7-3 at the second spot, while Schneider and Hegstad won 7-6 (4), 6-4 at third doubles.

“I was very happy with the way the guys played and showed their versatility,” Ronning said. “We changed the lineup in every match, and the guys responded well.”
