He was also introduced at an on-court recognition ceremony during the Boys Basketball State Tournament on Saturday, March 23.

As the state Class AA award recipient, Deitz will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.

The Triple "A" Award was established in 1988 by the Minnesota State High School League to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, the arts and athletics.

State Triple "A" Award recipients are selected by a multi-level process involving the league's member schools and administrative regions, and a special committee of educators, business leaders and members from the fine arts and athletic communities.

"Ted is one of the most talented individuals I have observed in my 23 years of education," said JHS principal Chad Duwenhoegger. "I am not sure that there is anything that he can't do as an individual. Ted is humble, giving and is always striving to help others around him become better individuals."

Deitz is the son of Steve and Amy Deitz.

He is the seventh JHS recipient of this prestigious award since the program's inception in 1988-89. Alexandria boosts more State Triple A Award winners than any other school in the state.

Past JHS state winners are: Shannon Monahan - 1989, Aaron Crowser - 1996, Todd Ferguson - 1998, Lindsay Hartmann and Scott Ferguson - 2000, Jonathan Dumm - 2001.
