Technology and social media: what parents need to know
Parents are invited to attend a technology and social media Community Education session on Thursday, March 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Discovery Middle School media center in Alexandria.
Keeping up with technology and social media provides both an opportunity and a challenge for parents. The self-esteem and confidence of kids, their interaction with others and their education and academic experience are affected.
Class content will review consequences of instant exposure on the Internet, cyber bullying and strategies to encourage increased safety for our children when using social media and the internet.
The class will suggest guidelines to help parents establish a healthy and safe technological atmosphere within the home.
Instructor Kandace Ellis has been a school psychologist for more than 30 years and has a particular interest in technology and its impact in the growth and development of children and adolescents.
Instructor Donna Speake is a licensed school counselor who has extensive training in “Love and Logic” parenting.
The cost is $15. For more information or to register, visit www.alexandria.thatscommunityed.com.
