Tastefully Simple partnership with Habitat builds more than homes
Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) is partnering with Tastefully Simple as a sponsor for the affiliate's upcoming Women Build, which begins on July 10. Tastefully Simple has been a valued partner in helping Habitat build hope, homes and community in Douglas County.
This Habitat home will be the first complete Women Build for the local affiliate. The goal is to engage women in advocacy, fundraising and volunteering to build a home.
The build is helping to bring new volunteers and donors to the mission. With an outpouring of energy, around 25 teams - to raise funds and volunteer time on construction - have signed up so far.
Tastefully Simple's support is helping to build more than a home for Habitat partner family Darla Koloski and her five children. It is building community wellbeing by encouraging people to engage with each other and become more involved in their community.
"We are so thankful for the leadership and support Tastefully Simple has shown throughout our community," said Lori Anderson, HFHDC executive director. "Their commitment to giving back has played an important part in our ability to serve more families."
Tastefully Simple was the first complete home sponsor in 2001 and has helped sponsor several other builds. This year, the company will act as a corporate sponsor for the Women Build through a $10,000 gift to the affiliate.
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build or renovate decent, affordable housing. They are selected according to established criteria: need for housing, ability to partner with Habitat and ability to pay.
Partner families purchase homes from Habitat with no-profit mortgages. Individuals, organizations, churches, foundations and businesses provide tax deductible donations of money, land and materials.
HFHDC is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and has built 31 homes for sale throughout Douglas County, providing housing for 127 people.
