A ‘tale as old as time’
The Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA) Student Theatre Projects will present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. Thursday through Saturday, June 19-21 and 26-28 at 7 p.m. at the AAAA Theatre. This “tale as old as time” will feature the talents of more than 60 area youth.
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, this play is a musical love story filled with a variety of characters, sets, costumes, and production numbers, including Be Our Guest, Gaston and the title song, Beauty and the Beast.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. is the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial French town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped in a spell placed by an enchantress.
If the Beast can learn to love and to be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self, but time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household staff, including Cogsworth the clock, Lumiere the candelabra, Mrs. Potts and Chip, will be cursed for all eternity.
The play features the animated film’s Academy Award-winning score, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by the late Howard Ashman, with additional lyrics by Tim Rice. The book was written by Linda Woolverton.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students and seniors, and $10 for kids 10 or younger. Tickets are available at the AAAA Box Office at (320) 762-8300. Advanced sales are recommended. The show is for audiences of all ages, and the run time is 90 minutes.
