Swimming and diving: Gators top Holdingford 95-90

The Minnewaska-Morris swimming and diving team won nine out of 12 events last Thursday night to secure a 95-90 win over Holdingford on Parents' Night.

"It was one of my most gratifying meets in my 18 years of coaching," head coach Linda Hoffmann said. "The girls believed and kept working hard."

Bridget Opdahl set a new pool record and won four events to lead the way. Opdahl set a new mark in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.66 in winning the event. The old record was set by Melrose freshman Gabi Sawyer last year when she posted a 1:02.67 time.

Opdahl added 200 IM, 200-medley relay and 200-freestyle relay titles to her night. Bridgitte Weaver won the 200 freestyle, the 500 freestyle and was a part of the winning 200-freestyle relay team as well.

Other first-place finishes came from Megan Thoen (200-medley relay, 100 backstroke), Julie Helander (diving, 200-free relay) and Mason Schlief (200-medley relay). The Gators also had three new section qualifiers in Schlief (100 breaststroke), Thoen (100 backstroke) and Ari Maras (100 backstroke).
