The Alexandria swimming and diving team found itself in a familiar spot on Saturday as the Cardinals finished second in the Tiger Division at the 22nd annual Maroon and Gold Invitational at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Cardinals have finished in second in the Tiger Division in five of the last six years. They got there this year by posting 386 team points as Roseville took home the team title in the division with 489 points.

Alexandria had nine individual top-eight finishes on the day. Elliot Jacobson and Mark Kallevig each had two of those as Jacobson took seventh in the 200 IM in a time of 2:07.09 and third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.96. Kallevig added a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 58.61 seconds and a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM in 2:13.59.

Brady Wolkow had a nice day on the diving board as he finished second with 190.70 points. Max Jacobson was third in the 50 freestyle (23.51). Brandon McCormick was third in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.17.

The Cardinals also had 12 season bests at the meet. D’Anthony Moorer dropped almost two seconds off his time in the 100 butterfly and Nick Chromey shaved almost three seconds off his time in the 100 breaststroke as he finished the event in fourth place in a time of 1:06.87.

Alexandria’s next meet was scheduled for last night, Tuesday, against Fergus Falls. The Cardinals will then turn right around and host St. Cloud Tech at the DMS pool on Thursday night.
