The Alexandria Police Department was investigating and attempting to locate Hamilton regarding an alleged domestic related incident when Hamilton was located by an officer patrolling County Road 46. The officer had a description of the vehicle Hamilton was believed to be driving and attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of County Road 46 and Hazel Hill Road.

Hamilton, 35, of Alexandria, was driving a Monte Carlo, according to scanner traffic, and had a female passenger in the vehicle. He led police on a high speed chase onto I-94 exiting at exit 100, onto County Road 45 and back into Alexandria on 5th Avenue, crossing Broadway and back to County Road 82. The chase lead police east on County Road 82 where Hamilton attempted to turn onto County Road 17 and lost control of the vehicle.

Hamilton attempted to run from police on foot, was apprehended and taken into custody and transported to the Douglas County Jail. Speeds during the chase reached 100 miles per hour.

Hamilton's passenger was later released. There was no property damage to police cars or the suspect vehicle. No injuries were incurred.

The suspect vehicle is being held for forfeiture and Hamilton will be held on numerous charges: Fleeing in a motor vehicle from police, domestic abuse related charges, possession of narcotics, felony warrant for controlled substances and several traffic related violations.

Hamilton was convicted on felony drug and weapon possession in 2011 and placed on five years probation. A probation violation was reported in June 2013; a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Hamilton's criminal record dates back to 1997 and includes drug possession, assault, theft and terroristic threats.

Assisting in the pursuit was the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Osakis Police Department.
