A suspect has been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies in Alexandria. He's 27-year-old Michael Warren of Alexandria.

Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels issued a news release about the arrest at about 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Wyffels said that the arrest culminated an intense week of a continued investigation involving multiple agencies, including the Alexandria Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Pope County Sheriff’s Office, Glenwood Police Department, West Central Drug Task Force, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Minnesota State Patrol.

"We have probable cause to believe that Warren is involved in the recent robberies that have occurred in Alexandria within the past few weeks," said Wyffels. "At this time, the investigation will continue and Warren will await formal charges."

Wyffels thanked the community for its support.

"We have not concluded this investigation, and therefore, will not be releasing any additional details at this time," said the chief.

Armed robberies were committed at Subway restaurant on February 23, Premiere Video on March 10 and Super America on March 18. In each case, a white male suspect entered the store shortly before closing time when a young female clerk was working. The suspect, wearing a mask and gloves, was armed with a handgun and he bound the clerk before leaving the store.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Alexandria Police Department at (320) 763-6631. "Please continue to stay vigilant, and never hesitate to contact the Alexandria Police Department," Wyffels said.
