The Alexandria Area Arts Association's (AAAA) Student Theatre Projects will present Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr. August 1-3 and 8-10 at 7 p.m. at the AAAA Theatre.

The Little Mermaid, Jr. is based on Disney's 1989 animated feature film that follows the young mermaid princess Ariel on her quest to see the world above.

The show contains all of the songs from the Academy Award-winning Disney film, including Under the Sea, Part of Your World and Kiss the Girl.

Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, Triton; escape the clutches of the evil sea witch, Ursula; and convince a charming prince that she's the girl with the perfect voice.

The production is the conclusion of the AAAA's Student Theatre Project, a month-long intensive summer camp designed to introduce students to the various aspects of theater.

The Little Mermaid, Jr. and The Student Theatre Projects are directed by David Christman. The production staff includes Holly Wallerich, assistant director/costumes/props; Lindsey Roers, choreography; Quincy Roers, technical design; Colin Robertson and Kent Kolstad, sound design; Rachel Capistrant, vocal director; and Scott Giannone, technical crew.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students and seniors, and $10 for kids 10 or younger. They can be purchased in advance by calling the AAAA box office at (320) 762-8300.

Music is by Alan Menken, the book by Doug Wright, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glen Slater, and music is adapted and arranged by David Weinstein.

The Little Mermaid, Jr. and the Student Theatre Projects are sponsored by Douglas Machine of Alexandria.
