Students to present history exhibits in St. Cloud March 23
More than 260 students from schools in Central Minnesota will present their exhibits, documentaries and performances at the regional History Day event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 23 at Atwood Memorial Center at St. Cloud State University.
Student exhibits and performances from 6-12 graders will explore the theme "Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events" as part of a statewide program co-sponsored by the Minnesota Historical Society and the University of Minnesota history department. The local History Day event is sponsored by the history department at SCSU.
Thousands of students statewide are researching topics of their own choosing, and going beyond facts and dates to create in-depth projects about their findings. In the process, they learn skills used by exhibit designers, filmmakers and scholars.
Winners of the regional events will advance to State History Day on May 4 at the University of Minnesota. State winners are eligible to go on to the National History Day competition in June in Washington D.C.
Community members are invited to volunteer as History Day judges. For details, visit www.stcloudstate.edu/history/historyday.
