Students in Tanya Jensen's 9th grade regional foods class at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria practiced their culinary decorating skills in the annual Cake Wars: Mission - Gingerbread House competition on December 21.

Entries were judged on creativity, height, planning, organization and overall finished product.

The contest is a preview of an upcoming cake decorating session the students will study after the holiday break.

The winners were Kyle Hanson and Kaitlin Lannes.

Runners up included Kenzie Abrahamson, River Pehrson, Tyler Minnerath, Jordan Nissen, McKenna Goracke, Natalie Minnerath, Hannah Jodsaas and Cayla Turnquist.
