ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Meland attends Berklee music program

Paul Meland, son of Jeff and Susan Meland, is currently attending a five-week music program at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. The program enrolls about 1,000 students each summer. Meland is an incoming senior at Jefferson High School in Alexandria. He has qualified for numerous honor bands and has been an active participant in the Alexandria Marching Band.

The following students graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth on May 18.

Alexandria: David Beck, Bachelor of Arts (BA), biology, cum laude; Weston Honkomp, Bachelor of Accounting, accounting, departmental honors; Alan Scholer, BA, Bachelor of Business Administration, economics, financial markets, departmental honors; Sage Snyder, BA, biology.

Brandon: Kyle Walter, Bachelor of Applied Science, exercise science.

HONORS:

Melissa Gaffaney of Alexandria was named to the spring 2013 dean's list at St. Cloud Technical and Community College for achieving a grade point average betwee 3.5 and 3.9. Her major is culinary arts.

Natalie Bourman of Alexandria was named to the spring 2013 president's list at St. Cloud Technical and Community College for achieving a grade point average of 4.0. Her major is liberal arts and sciences.

The following students were named to the spring 2013 dean's list at Bemidji State University for carrying 12 or more semester hours and earning at least a 3.25 grade point average.

Brittany Holm of Alexandria received the Chancellor's Award for the spring 2013 semester at University of Wisconsin-Stout for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Holm is majoring in graphic design and interactive media.

The following students were awarded a Skill Point Certificate at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference for scoring high in hands-on occupational and leadership contests as judged by industry standards.

Farwell: Bryce Holm, Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC), Skill Point Certificate in Technical Drafting; Cody Anderson, ATCC, Skill Point Certificate in Marine Service Technology; Daniel Schonberg, ATCC, Skill Point Certificate in Precision Machining Technology.

Samuel Johnson of Alexandria was named to the spring 2013 dean's list at Montana State University in Bozeman for earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and completing 12 credit hours.
