Stroke screenings offered here
Farm Bureau Financial Services will host another Stroke Detection Plus screening in Alexandria.
It will take place Monday, February 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge on 526 North Nokomis Street.
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and can lead to serious long-term disability, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In 2009, Farm Bureau Financial Services hosted three Stroke Detection Plus stroke and vascular screening events in Alexandria.
Here are the results: no one was found to have critical blockage, three people had significant blockage, 21 people had moderate blockage, three people had abnormal results for the aortic aneurysm screening, three people had abnormal results for the peripheral vascular disease screening, and 17 people had abnormal results for the osteoporosis screening.
Four types of screenings are available - stroke, abdominal aortic abeurysm, peripheral vascular disease and osteoporosis. The cost for any one test is $40; any three tests $100; or all four tests for $120.
