Karen Wells, LaDeen Schillinger, Sam Kuehl and Rick Schara, Job Service staff of the Alexandria WorkForce Center, were members of the Job Service Team of the Year that was recently recognized by the
Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
The award recognizes one Minnesota Job Service team that provides "outstanding service to job-seeking customers, exceptional returns to taxpayer dollars and a model of performance as a team."
Caring Hands Dental Clinic of Alexandria was nominated for the 2013 Minnesota Rural Health Team Award by Bridgett Rassett of the Minnesota Dental Association. The Caring Hands team was mentioned as a nominee during the Minnesota Rural Health Conference awards luncheon on June 25.
Hurley and Associates recently hired Dan Hawkins as a risk management consultant working out of its Glenwood office. As a risk management consultant, Hawkins will work closely with farm clients in Minnesota and North Dakota. He helps review budgets, determine cash flow requirements and develop and implement marketing risk management strategies.
For the past eight years, Hawkins worked with John Deere and Company, where his focus included production development, marketing and customer/product support for farm machinery and precision agriculture technologies.

Hampton Inn and Suites Alexandria recently received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award. The accolade, which recognizes hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide.
To qualify for a Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travelers on TripAdvisor, and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.

Jan Keller, CAP-OM, senior assistant to vice president of operations with Tastefully Simple, Inc., was elected president of the St. Cloud Quarry Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) for the year beginning July 1.
Kim Tryggeseth, CAP-OM, senior assistant to director of distribution services with Tastefully Simple, Inc., was elected secretary.
IAAP is the world's leading association for administrative professionals, providing career information, education, networking opportunities and certification programs.
Attorney Michael Dolan of Thornton, Reif, Dolan and Bowen, P.A., was recently recognized as a North Star Lawyer. This designation was created by the Minnesota State Bar Association to recognize attorneys who have provided free legal services to low income individuals. Less than 3 percent of all registered attorneys in Minnesota have received such a designation.
In addition, Dolan has been certified as a civil trial specialist for more than 20 years. Fewer than 3 percent of all registered attorneys in Minnesota are certified specialists. Dolan concentrates his practice on family law, mediation and general litigation.
The financial services firm Edward Jones was recently named the number one large company on the Top Workplaces in Minnesota ranking, according to Nate Larson, Kevin Klepper and Scott Larson, the financial advisors in Alexandria.
The ranking was based on employee opinions about company leadership, compensation and training, diversity/inclusion, career development, family-friendly flexibility, and values and ethics.
