• As part of its celebration of seven years in business, Cherry Street Books in Alexandria will host a book signing by C. Alexander Hortis, author of The Mob and the City: The Hidden History of How the Mafia Captured New York on Monday, June 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hortis has published several articles on the Mafia. • Thirty-four teams participated in the 14th annual United Way Golf Classic at Geneva Golf Club in Alexandria on June 9, raising more than $13,000 for United Way programs in Douglas County. The tournament winners included Bell State Bank and Trust, first place team; Douglas Scientific, second place team; Bell State Bank and Trust and Clifton Larson Allen, skins winners; and Dale Erickson, one-year Geneva Golf Club membership.
• Bremer Bank announces its Meals for Many Campaign. For every $1 donated from June 16-28, Bremer will match $2-for-$1, up to $35,000.
