On the street
Cherry Street Books, 503 Broadway in downtown Alexandria, will host a book signing for Minnesota mystery writer Jess Lourey on Friday, January 24 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Lourey’s latest addition to her murder-by-month series, which began in 2006 with May Day, is January Thaw. Just released this month, the story of Mira James, a private-eye in training, is again set in Battle Lake.
This time around, however, it is largely set in and around the Prospect House, a home built by a Civil War veteran. His descendants still own and occupy the house and now have a museum of Civil War artifacts displayed there.
For a preview of the setting, take a video tour at www.prospecthousemuseum.org.
Lourey, a former resident of Alexandria and instructor at Alexandria Technical and Community College, grew up in Paynesville and now lives and teaches in St. Cloud. She is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, the Loft and Lake Superior Writers.
