• Johnson and Larter, Ltd., a certified public accounting firm in Alexandria, recently announced its name change to Larter CPA Group, Ltd. It offers a variety of business and individual services. “Although the name has changed, the expertise, experience and the team mentality of our staff will remain the same,” said management.
Teela Johnson has also joined the Larter CPA Group, Ltd. team. Johnson will focus on individual and business taxation and work with CPAs Les Larter, Tracy Snyder, Brian Bruss and Melissa Dehne.
Johnson graduated from Southwest State University in Marshall with a degree in business and has been practicing in the Alexandria area for the past five years.
• Alexandria region employees of BlackRidgeBANK raised $1,063 in 2013 through their Denim on Fridays program. The United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties Adopt a Family program received $750 of the funds. This program provides Christmas gifts to local families in need. The remaining funds were donated to Hospice of Douglas County.
• Garden Center Lanes ran the second annual SunOpta Sweeper, a one-day bowling tournament, on Saturday, November 23 to raise money for the Douglas County Food Shelf and provide a competitive bowling tournament.
With donations from SunOpta, K Norman Sales, Storm Bowling, Ebonite, Garden Center Lanes, Nevin Brede and the Alexandria Area United States Bowling Congress Association, $2,015 was raised.
Bowlers participated from throughout all of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. Rick Johnson placed first, Brady Erdmann placed second and Kevin Dawson placed third.
