Stop by, bring the family to Community Night Out
Alexandria Minnesota 225 7th Ave E
P.O. Box 549

On August 6, thousands of communities nationwide will celebrate the 30th annual National Night Out and Alexandria is taking part too with its annual Community Night Out.

Local families are invited to attend Community Night Out at City Park in Alexandria on Tuesday, August 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. This year is the 10th anniversary of the local night-out event.

It's an effort to build stronger community partnerships and includes special events, informational booths and food.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) coordinates the annual event.

"Come out to Community Night Out and have a free picnic sponsored by several local businesses and see what safety services are available in Alexandria," said APD Chief Rick Wyffels. "This is a great time to meet and greet people in a beautiful City Park setting.

"This is an important event for people to see the pride in our community and what a wonderful place it is to live, work and raise a family," the chief added. "Making new connections with fellow residents and becoming involved in our community through this event helps keep Alexandria a great community. We take this opportunity to show off our city departments and what they do for the city of Alexandria."

Here are a few things to check out during your time at Community Night Out:

--Alexandria Police Department officers will meet with residents and offer demonstrations of SWAT gear, Fatal Vision goggles, Night Vision and give away door prizes at the end of the event.

--Alexandria Fire Department will have fire trucks on display and host an inflatable "Fire Hopper" for kids to play in.

--Alexandria Light and Power will offer boom truck rides for kids.

--Alexandria Streets and Park departments will drive in and display large equipment that crews use to maintain streets and parks.

--City of Alexandria's Cultural Inclusiveness Committee will host a booth.

In addition to city of Alexandria displays, CenterPoint Energy will be at the event with handouts and giveaways, North Ambulance will have a crew on-hand to meet with residents, LifeLink is scheduled to bring a helicopter to the event and the following organizations and businesses will also be represented or are sponsoring the event: Someplace Safe, municipal liquor stores, Runestone Community Center, Alexandria Light and Power, Eagles Club, Viking Bottling Company, Culvers, Pete's County Market, Bernick's Pepsi, Target, Walmart, Henry's Foods and Paul's Small Engine.

Community Night Out is for people of all ages, Wyffels said. "There are activities for younger children and displays for all ages. Everyone in our community can see how well our services work together and that the people working in those services truly care about the city of Alexandria and want to do the best they can for our residents."
