State Class AAA/AA girls' golf: Alexandria, Minnewaska both in second after day one

The Alexandria girls are in second place after day one of the State Class AAA girls' golf meet Tuesday.

The Cardinals have a team score of 325, just four strokes back of Edina.

Leading the Cards on day one was Emily Thul, who is tied for 11th with a score of 79, Amanda Bigger is tied for 17th with an 80, Natalie Amundson is tied for 20th with an 81, Brynn Novotny is tied for 39th with an 85 and Bridget Amundson is tied for 60th with a 91.

Alex Schmid of Shakopee is tied with Sarah Burnham of Wayzata for the lead at 71.

The Minnewaska girls are also in second place in their Class AA division with a 316. Defending champion Detroit Lakes is in the lead with a 297 after day one and have the top two golfers on the day as Natalie Roth finished with a 70 and Kate Smith with a 72.

Minnewaska's Jenna Janu is tied for fifth with a 76 and Alexis Guggisberg is tied for seventh with a 77. Ashlyn Guggisberg is tied for 11th at 79, Ellen Stensrud is tied for 23rd with an 84, Ariel Ostrander is tied for 63rd with a 95 and Annika Pederson is 84th with a 115.

Osakis 7th grader Alayna Eldred finished her first day tied for 19th at 83.
