Staples-Motley knocks Osakis to loser’s bracket
The Osakis softball team dropped its first game in the 6AA West playoffs to Staples-Motley last Wednesday.
“We got down early, which is hard to come back from against a good pitcher,” head coach John Stigman said. “We had a hard time adjusting to her speed. They swung the bats well and got big hits when they had runners in scoring position.”
Stigman said the Osakis pitchers had trouble getting ahead in the count and had to battle through that in a lot of at-bats.
“Being up 0-2 in a count is much easier to pitch to then down 2-0,” Stigman said. “We just had too many hitters’ counts and not enough pitchers’ counts.”
Amber Giese took the loss after throwing the first 4 1/3 innings. She allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and two walks. Rylee Mickle threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, while striking out two.
Brooke Waldorf went 2-for-3 with one run. Jenna Fearing was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Katie Anderson, Jordyn Rajdl and Morgan Silbernick each had a hit apiece.
