Fall soccer academy

Registration for the Alexandria Area Soccer Association’s fall soccer academy is open.

Players who are new to soccer or experienced can take part in a six-session academy that will consist of warmups, skills and technical training.

The six co-ed sessions will be divided into three age groups based upon grade levels during the fall of 2014. Those groups include kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade and fourth and fifth grade.

The academy runs September 13, 20, 27 and October 4, 11 and 18 from 9-10 a.m. at Lincoln Elementary School. Cost is $45 per person. The deadline to register is September 2.

Charger Classic Golf Tournament

The eighth annual Chargers Classic Golf Tournament with proceeds going to benefit Brandon-Evansville athletics will be played on September 6 starting at 9 a.m.

The tournament is a four-person scramble at Pine Ridge Golf Course near Evansville. Cost is $60 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, a meal and a chance at door prizes. The tournament will take up to 18 teams.

LAR tackle football

Lakes Area Recreation is taking registrations for the fifth and sixth grade tackle football program that will start this September.

The program will meet Saturdays with fifth grade starting at 9:15 a.m. and sixth grade at 10:45 a.m. starting on September 6 and running through October 11. Practices will begin the week of August 25 with a parent meeting taking place in the LAR gym on August 20 at 6:30 p.m. The program will meet at the Alexandria Area High School football fields.

Cost is $73 and the registration deadline is August 15. The program is limited to 80 players for each grade.

Midwest 3-on-3 basketball league in Parkers Prairie

The Midwest 3-on-3 basketball league is coming to Parkers Prairie every Sunday night from September 21 through October 12.

This is a non-coached league where players form their own teams and play two 20-minute games per night in a 3-on-3 format. Teams can consist of three or four players and the league is open to boys and girls in grades 4-12.

The games will be played at Parkers Prairie High School and Elementary School from 4-9 p.m. Cost is $45 per player and teams can register at

Early registration deadline is August 31. Any team that registers after that date will need to pay a $20 late fee per team and no registrations will be taken after September 11.

LAR flag football

Lakes Area Recreation is taking registrations for first through fourth grade youth flag football.

The program will meet Saturdays starting September 6 and running through October 11. First grade will meet at 11 a.m. Second grade will meet at 10 a.m., third grade at 9 a.m. and fourth grade at 8 a.m.

The program is located at the Alexandria Area High School football fields. Cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt.

Co-ed volleyball tournament and bean bag tournament

A 32-team co-ed volleyball tournament scheduled for August 30 at Fat Daddy’s, Jerry’s Bar and Grill and Bug-A-Boo Bay Restaurant is taking registrations until August 27.

Entry cost is $100.

A 64-team double-elimination bean bag tournament will also be played that same day. The entry fee for the bean bag tournament is $50 and the top team will win $800. Second place will get $600, third place $450, fourth place $350 and fifth place $250. Sixth through 10th place will receive $150 each.

Fall baseball league

Alexandria’s Caleb Curry is holding his fall baseball league at Knute Nelson Ballpark in August and September for athletes in grades 7-12.

Curry will hold the fall instructional baseball league starting on August 30 and running on Saturdays through September 27. Grades 7-9 will go from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with grades 10-12 running from 2 to 5 p.m.

The league provides an hour of instruction followed by a seven-inning game. The schedule is set up to try and eliminate conflicts with other fall sports. Former and current professional and collegiate players and coaches will be working the league.
