Cardinal wrestling fishing tournament

The Alexandria Cardinal wrestling booster club is hosting the fifth annual Cardinal Wrestling Fishing Tournament on August 9.


The tournament will take place from the Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center. It is open to anyone with a $50 entry fee for each boat. Money raised goes to benefit the Alexandria wrestling program.

Fishing begins at 8 a.m. and concludes with a weigh-in at noon. Registration begins at 7:30 at the Arrowwood boat launch. Anglers are asked to use the public access on Lake Carlos or L’Homme Dieu to access Lake Darling and the Arrowwood docks.

Minnewaska triathlon

The 12th annual Lake Minnewaska Triathlon is scheduled for August 2 at 7:30 a.m.

The triathlon will feature a 400-yard swim, 11.1-mile bike ride and a 2.5-mile run. Register online at and visit for more information.

Fundraiser golf scramble

The “Carpenter’s Crew” of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria is hosting a nine-hole golf scramble on August 3 to benefit the Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build home this summer.

Teams will consist of four people, men or women, with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. at Hardwood Hills Golf Course. Cost is $50 per person and includes nine holes of golf, a shared cart, burgers, door prizes and a $30 donation supporting the Women Build home project. There is room for 10 teams in the scramble.

Fall baseball league

Alexandria’s Caleb Curry is holding his fall baseball league at Knute Nelson Ballpark in August and September for athletes in grades 7-12.

Curry will hold the fall instructional baseball league starting on August 30 and running on Saturdays through September 27. Grades 7-9 will go from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with grades 10-12 running from 2 to 5 p.m.

The league provides an hour of instruction followed by a seven-inning game. The schedule is set up to try and eliminate conflicts with other fall sports. Former and current professional and collegiate players and coaches will be working the league.

Co-ed volleyball tournament and bean bag tournament

A 32-team co-ed volleyball tournament scheduled for August 30 at Fat Daddy’s, Jerry’s Bar and Grill and Bug-A-Boo Bay Restaurant is taking registrations until August 27.

The tournament will pay out $800 to the first-place team. Second gets $500, third $350, fourth $325, fifth $250 and teams finishing sixth through ninth get $150 each. Entry cost is $100.

A 64-team double-elimination bean bag tournament will also be played that same day. The entry fee for the bean bag tournament is $50 and the top team will win $800. Second place will get $600, third place $450, fourth place $350 and fifth place $250. Sixth through 10th place will receive $150 each.
