Alexandria baseball to host Strikeout Cancer event
The Alexandria baseball team will join in the Strikeout Cancer campaign and also work with the Douglas County Relay for Life to raise money for both organizations during a May 1 game at Knute Nelson Field.
The Minnesota Baseball Coaches Association is partnering this spring with University of Minnesota pitching coach Todd Oakes in the Strikeout Cancer campaign.
The Cardinals are scheduled to host Sauk Rapids-Rice on May 1 in a junior varsity and varsity doubleheader. The JV game will get things going at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow at around 7.
The team will be asking for free-will donations that night. A donation table will be set up at the entrance and workers will also be making their way through the stands seeking donations to help support the cause.
All the money raised that night will go to Douglas County Relay for Life and the Strikeout Cancer campaign.
Tipsinah Mounds golf tournament
The Tipsinah Mounds Early Bird 4-Man Scramble will take place on Saturday, May 10 with a noon shotgun start.
Registration for the 18-hole tournament will run from 11-11:30 a.m. Flights and prizes depend on the number of entries into the tournament.
The entry fee is $40 per person for members and $50 for non-members with a card included in that price.

Osakis Color Dash 5K
The Osakis Color Dash 5K race to benefit the Osakis Wrestling Club is scheduled for May 24 starting at the Osakis Athletic Complex.
The race will begin at 10 a.m. with the packet pick up starting at 8 a.m. The price is $40 for an individual and $35 for a team and $85 for a family.

The Alexandria Golf Club’s Junior Golf Academy is starting June 12 and running through August 21.

Pine Ridge golf meetings
The Pine Ridge Golf Club will hold its league meetings in early May at the clubhouse.
The men’s league meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on May 6 with the women’s league meeting following a week later on May 13 at 6:30. Those interested in competing in league play this summer should attend.
Knute Nelson Foundation Golf Classic
The eighth annual Knute Nelson Foundation Golf Classic will take place Monday, May 19 at the Geneva Golf Club in Alexandria.
Those interested can sign up as an individual, as a sponsor or as a team of four and hole sponsor. The individual cost is $100 and includes 18 holes, a cart, dinner and a donation to the Knute Nelson Foundation. The cost to sponsor a hole is $250 and includes signage at a hole, dinner, recognition at the awards program and in all communications materials and a donation to the Knute Nelson Foundation.
Signing up as a team of four costs $425 per team. That includes 18 holes for four players and two carts, along with everything else that is included in the Sponsor ticket.

Chain of Lakes Triathlon registration
Registrations are coming in fast for the annual Chain of Lakes Triathlon in Alexandria.
The 2014 race is set to take place May 3. All Alexandria area residents are urged to sign up as soon as possible because the event fills to capacity after approximately 200 entries.

Kyle’s Lakes Area Classic
Registrations are being accepted for the 25th annual Kyle’s Lakes Area Classic men’s golf tournament, which will be held on May 31 at the Alexandria Golf Club.
The tournament is $100 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, endless brats on the course and a prime rib buffet after the tournament. The first 80 golfers to sign up will be entered into a raffle to win two rounds of golf with a cart at the Alexandria Golf Club.

Cap Paciotti Memorial Golf Tournament
The Cardinal Athletic Foundation’s Cap Paciotti Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 14 at the Alexandria Golf Club.
This year’s honoree is former Jefferson High School health and physical education teacher and varsity basketball and baseball coach Roger Johnson.
A shotgun start will begin at 1 p.m. that day with a dinner and awards presentation to follow at 5. The tournament will feature a four-person handicapped scramble, field events, hole-in-one contests and skins and mulligans available at registration.
The entry fee is $500 for a four-person team. That includes green fees, cart, range balls, field events and dinner. Extra dinner tickets are $25. Proceeds from the fundraiser go to the Cardinal Athletic Foundation, which since its inception has provided more than $125,000 to support Alexandria Cardinals athletics.

United Way golf classic
The United Way’s Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, June 9 at the Geneva Golf Club.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day
The Alexandria YMCA is holding a Healthy Kids Day on April 25 from 6-8 p.m. in an attempt to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active.
The free community event is part of the YMCA’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being. It features games and activities, arts and crafts and open swimming to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.
“One in three U.S. children is obese,” Alexandria Area YMCA Health and Wellness Director Kali Beckman said in a release. “This statistic, coupled with the fact that once summer hits, children will be more idle, demonstrates why it’s important to help families develop healthy habits now. As part of the Y’s commitment to healthy living, through YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day our goal is to improve the health and well-being of kids and inspire habits they can continue into adulthood.”
