Cumberbatch named CLC Athlete of the week Alexandria’s Justin Cumberbatch was named the Central Lakes Conference Performer of the Week in wrestling on January 13.
Cumberbatch earned the award after winning four matches at the Monticello duals on January 11. The junior is currently ranked third at 195 pounds in the Guillotine rankings.
Help local SO teams through Polar Plunge registration Those interested in signing up for the Polar Plunge in Alexandria on February 23 can help out the local Special Olympic teams by registering under the team password.
The password to register under the Alexandria Special Olympic team is 04.AAG. Doing this will assure that 50 percent of the money raised by the Alexandria team will stay with the local SO teams. To register, go to www.plungemn.org.

Prairie Conference AOW Osakis’ Brooke Sorenson was named the Prairie Conference female athlete of the week for her play from December 30 through January 4.
Sorenson earned the honor with a big game against Pierz when she scored 20 points to go along with five rebounds, five steals, five blocked shots and three assists in a 63-41 win on January 4.
SCSU track and field throwing clinic St. Cloud State University will hold its annual winter track and field throwing clinic in the university’s Halenbeck Hall Fieldhouse on January 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The clinic is open to all boys and girls in grades 9 through 12. Cost is $35 per person and includes a t-shirt along with a lunch for participants. St. Cloud State coaches and athletes will instruct participants in the basics of the discus and shot put.
Clinic participants should bring their own shoes, indoor shot put and indoor/rubber discus. The registration deadline is January 15.

Northern Diamonds Academy baseball clinics Alexandria’s Caleb Curry will be hosting a baseball league and camp later this winter for area youths.
Curry, a former draft pick by the San Francisco Giants and now the director of the Northern Diamonds Academy, will have a Lil’ Hammers Baseball League for those in grades 2-6 on the dates of February 22, March 1 and March 8. The Saturday leagues will run from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Discovery Middle School gymnasium. There will be 45 minutes of construction followed by 60 minutes of life game action. The cost is $75.
Curry will also host an area baseball camp on March 8 at the DMS gym. Grades 6-8 will run from noon to 2:30 p.m. with grades 9-12 going from 3-5:30 p.m. The cost is $30.
