CLC Performer of the Week

Alexandria’s Mark Kallevig won the Central Lakes Conference performer of the week honor for the second time this season when awards were announced on Monday.

Kallevig got the honor for his performance at the Maroon and Gold Invite at the University of Minnesota this past Saturday. He finished fourth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 200 IM as a part of the Tiger Division.

Alex girls’ hockey fundraiser

The Alexandria girls’ hockey program will hold a chili and burger feed and a silent auction on January 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the Alexandria Eagles Club.

Tickets for adults are $8 and $5 for children ages 5-12. Children ages 4 and younger will get in free. The tickets are available at the door or by contacting a girls’ high school hockey player.

WCA basketball tournament

West Central Area will hold a basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades 4-6 on Saturday, March 15.

SCSU track and field throwing clinic

St. Cloud State University will hold its annual winter track and field throwing clinic in the university’s Halenbeck Hall Fieldhouse on January 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The clinic is open to all boys and girls in grades 9 through 12. Cost is $35 per person and includes a t-shirt along with a lunch for participants. St. Cloud State coaches and athletes will instruct participants in the basics of the discus and shot put.

Clinic participants should bring their own shoes, indoor shot put and indoor/rubber discus. The registration deadline is January 15.

Northern Diamonds Academy baseball clinics

Alexandria’s Caleb Curry will be hosting a baseball league and camp later this winter for area youths.

Curry, a former draft pick by the San Francisco Giants and now the director of the Northern Diamonds Academy, will have a Lil’ Hammers Baseball League for those in grades 2-6 on the dates of February 22, March 1 and March 8. The Saturday leagues will run from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Discovery Middle School gymnasium. There will be 45 minutes of construction followed by 60 minutes of life game action. The cost is $75.

Curry will also host an area baseball camp on March 8 at the DMS gym. Grades 6-8 will run from noon to 2:30 p.m. with grades 9-12 going from 3-5:30 p.m. The cost is $30.

The Echo Press is looking for ice fishing photos from readers throughout all of this winter’s ice fishing season.

Send us a photo, along with a detailed story behind your catch, including what lake the fish was caught on and what day. Some photos will go into the Outdoor Section in the print edition of the Echo Press and all of them will be put up online.
