Alexandria’s Amanda Christianson was named the Central Lakes Conference girls’ basketball player of the week after leading the Cardinals to two straight wins to start the season.

Send us your ice fishing photos

The Echo Press is looking for ice fishing photos from readers throughout all of this winter’s ice fishing season.

Send us a photo, along with a detailed story behind your catch, including what lake the fish was caught on and what day. Some photos will go into the Outdoor Section in the print edition of the Echo Press and all of them will be put up online.

Northern Diamonds Academy baseball clinics

Alexandria’s Caleb Curry will be hosting a baseball league and camp later this winter for area youths.

Curry, a former draft pick by the San Francisco Giants and now the director of the Northern Diamonds Academy, will have a Lil’ Hammers Baseball League for those in grades 2-6 on the dates of February 22, March 1 and March 8. The Saturday leagues will run from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Discovery Middle School gymnasium. The cost is $75.

Curry will also host an area baseball camp on March 8 at the DMS gym. Grades 6-8 will run from noon to 2:30 p.m. with grades 9-12 going from 3-5:30 p.m. The cost is $30.

Elks hoop shoot free-throw contest

The Elks Hoop Shoot free-throw contest for boys and girls will take place at the Jefferson High School gym on December 29 at 1 p.m.

The hoop shoot is free to boys and girls who are between the ages of 8-13 as of April 1, 2014. Winners of the contest advance through district, state and regional contests with regional winners qualifying for a trip to compete at the Hoop Shoot National Finals from April 10-13 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Journey on the Jefferson hardwood

The Alexandria girls’ basketball team will commemorate the final season of basketball played at Jefferson High School during its annual holiday tournament on December 28.

All alumni of the Cardinal girls’ basketball team are invited back for the game that day. Players and former coaches will be recognized for their contributions to the program. More details about the event will be released in the coming weeks.

WCA basketball tournament

West Central Area will hold a basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades 4-6 on Saturday, March 15.
