The program, which consists of skiers from Chokio-Alberta, Herman-Norcross, Wheaton, Fergus Falls, West Central Area and Alexandria, is inviting high school skiers of all ability levels to the meeting. Parents or anyone else interested in joining or helping out with the program is also encouraged to attend.

Try hockey for
free at RCC
The Alexandria Area Hockey Association (AAHA) will host a Try Hockey for Free Day at the Runestone Community Center on November 2 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for boys and girls ages 4-9.
The free clinic is designed to help young kids experience ice hockey and learn the basics of the sport in a fun, safe environment.
“We look forward to introducing new families to our sport,” AAHA Director of Hockey Andy Shriver said. “To help keep costs reasonable for parents, we’ve incorporated programs to provide first-year players with equipment for the season.”

YMCA Turkey Day 5K
The Alexandria Area YMCA is hosting the 3rd annual Turkey Day 5K on Thanksgiving day, November 28 at the YMCA.
The race is open to both members and non-members. Check-in and registration begins at 6:30 a.m. followed by an 8 a.m. race start. The race begins at the YMCA, continues along the Central Lakes Trail and finishes back at the YMCA.
Participants who register before Monday, November 18 are guaranteed a T-shirt. Early bird registration is $20 and race-day registration is $25. Runners and walkers can register online at www.alexandriaymca.com or by calling (320) 834-9622.

The Echo Press is looking for hunting photos from readers throughout all of this fall’s hunting seasons.
Send us the photos from your hunts this season, whether it’s pheasants, waterfowl, deer or turkey, along with a detailed story behind your hunt. Some photos will go into a new Outdoor Section in the print edition of the Echo Press and all of them will be put up online.

Alex girls’ basketball meetings
There will be a girls’ basketball preseason meeting for all 9-12 players and parents on Monday, November 4 in the Jefferson High School media center from 6-6:30 p.m.
A meeting will also be held for all players in 9th grade on Thursday, October 24 in the Discovery Middle School cafeteria from 7-7:15 a.m. All players who plan to play need to attend and receive the information on practices and the season.

LAR youth basketball
Lakes Area Recreation is accepting registrations for the youth basketball program for boys and girls in grades 1-6.
The season for grades 4-6 will run from November 2 through January 11. The 1st through 3rd grade season will run from December 7 through February 22.
A parent coaches meeting is scheduled for October 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the University of Minnesota Extension Conference room. The fee for this activity is $50.
