Send hunting photos The Echo Press is looking for hunting photos from readers throughout all of this fall’s hunting seasons.

Send us the photos from your hunts this season, whether it’s pheasants, waterfowl, deer or turkey, along with a detailed story behind your hunt. Some photos will go into a new Outdoor Section in the print edition of the Echo Press and all of them will be put up online.

Dirck named in “Best Teachers” article by Golf Digest Scott Dirck of the Scott Dirck Golf Academy at Geneva Golf Club has been named one of the “Best Teachers in the State of Minnesota 2013-14” by Golf Digest magazine.

The article, which appears in the November 2013 edition, lists the top golf instructors in the country, along with their affiliations and hour lesson rates. The list is prepared every two years, polling more than 1,000 teaching professionals for their opinions on their peers.

“I’m very honored to be named among the top golf instructors in Minnesota,” Dirck said. “And especially proud that this recognition is a show of support from my fellow golf instructors.”

Dirck has been teaching in the Alexandria Area for 19 y ears.

LAR youth basketball Lakes Area Recreation is accepting registrations for the youth basketball program for boys and girls in grades 1-6.

The season for grades 4-6 will run from November 2 through January 11. The 1st through 3rd grade season will run from December 7 through February 22.

A parent coaches meeting is scheduled for October 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the University of Minnesota Extension Conference room. The fee for this activity is $50.

Alexandria JO volleyball sessions The Alexandria Junior Olympic Volleyball Club will start the 2013-14 season soon with tryout sessions later this fall.

A mandatory parent meeting and tryout session for the advanced program (grades 7th through 12th) will take place on October 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Alexandria.

A tryout session for those in grades 7 and 8 will then take place on Sunday, October 27 from 4-8 p.m. at Jefferson High School. The tryout session for those in grades 9-12 will be November 10 from noon to 4 p.m. at Lakes Area Recreation. A team selection minicamp for those in grades 4-6 will take place on November 12 from 4-5:15 p.m. at LAR.

Fall figure skating lessons The Alexandria Figure Skating Club will host fall figure skating lessons starting on October 21 at 6 p.m.

Classes are available for all ages from beginners to advanced skill levels. Registration dates at the Runestone Community Center will held on September 15, September 16 and September 19 from 6-7:30 p.m.
