of the Week

Alexandria’s Sarah Bruzek was named a Central Lakes Conference performer of the week recently for girls’ soccer.

Bruzek, a senior goaltender for Alexandria, had three shutouts in wins over Moorhead, Brainerd and St. Cloud Tech last week. She has seven total shutouts on the season and a 0.4 goals against average through 11 games.

Football alumni to

be recognized at

homecoming

All former Cardinal football players are invited to the Alexandria homecoming game against Willmar this Saturday to be recognized at halftime.

There will be a table at the entrance gate for the former players to register and indicate the year they graduated. Jefferson High School will also be open from 8-10 a.m. for alumni to tour the building and reminisce.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. as Alexandria tries to get its first win of the season against a 3-1 Willmar team.

Alexandria Aces tryouts

The Alexandria aces are holding tryouts from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. on Monday, October 7 in the LAR gymnasium. The tryouts are open to fourth through sixth grade boys and girls, and there is not cost. For further information contact Larry Novotny at 762-5154.

Pump and run 5K

Osakis Strength and Fitness will host its third annual Pump and Run 5K on October 5.

The Pump and Run 5k is an event that combines the bench press with a 5K race. It allows for the opportunity, but does not require, to bench press a weight determined by the participant’s gender, age and body type. For each repetition completed, 30 seconds is deducted from their 5K run time.

Fall figure skating lessons

The Alexandria Figure Skating Club will host fall figure skating lessons starting on October 21 at 6 p.m.

Classes are available for all ages from beginners to advanced skill levels. Registration dates at the Runestone Community Center will held on September 15, September 16 and September 19 from 6-7:30 p.m.

3-on-3 basketball league in Alexandria

Midwest 3-on-3 is hosting 3-on-3 basketball league this fall in Alexandria.

The dates for the second annual Alexandria league are on the Sundays of September 15, 22, 29 and October 6 and 13. They run from 4-9 p.m. and will be played at Discovery Middle School.

Boys and girls in grades 4-12 as of the fall of 2013 can register to play in the tournament. Cost is $55 per player with a $10 online registration fee per team. The Registration deadline is August 25. There will be a $20 late fee for those who sign up after the late registration deadline of September 5.

ATCC 5K run/walk

The Alexandria Technical and Community Foundation is having a 5K run/walk on Saturday, September 28 with the theme of “Running for Student Scholarships.”

The ATCC Foundation awards nearly $400,000 in scholarship funds each year. Proceeds from the event will go toward student scholarships.

Runners and walkers of all ability levels are welcome. The race will be professionally chip timed. To register, go to www.atcc5k.zapevent.com.

Fall dance team program

Lakes Area Recreation will hold dance team training for girls in grades 7-12 with no tryouts necessary.

The program will serve as a starting point and training for dancers who are either interested in or part of the winter competitive Cardinal dance team.

Basic jazz and kick techniques as well as endurance and stretching will be part of the practices, which will culminate in a performance at a Cardinal football game this fall.

FCA Fields of Faith night at Citizens Field

The local Fellowship of Christian Athletes will take part in a national event of hosting a Fields of Faith night at Citizens Field on October 9.

The event is set to run from 6:30-8 p.m. A praise and worship band will play. A youth pastor will give a sermon and kids will be on hand to give their testimonies on how they make time in their lives to read the bible.

Parents are invited to attend with their children. In case of bad weather, the event will move into the Jefferson High School gymnasium.
