Amundsons, Bigger compete in junior state golf championship
Three Alexandria golfers participated in the 2013 Minnesota Junior Girls' State Championship on July 8 and 9 at the Baker National Golf Club in Medina.
Natalie Amundson finished lowest among Alexandria natives, shooting a total of 169 strokes over two days. Amundson shot an 83-stroke round in the first day of competition and an 86 in the second day.
Amanda Bigger finished with 172 strokes over two days, shooting an 83 in the first day of competition and an 89 in the second day.
Bridget Amundson finished with 196 strokes in the competition after shooting a 92 and 104.
Roggenbuck named MVP-offensive line at Morris
Osakis graduate Tony Roggenbuck was named the most valuable offensive lineman for the University of Minnesota- Morris football team during the 2012 season.
Roggenbuck, a junior this past season, has put together a good career with the Cougars. He started 10 games as a sophomore and the final six games of his freshman season.
Cardinal soccer camp
The Alexandria Area Soccer Association (AASA) will host a "Train with the Pros" camp the week of July 22.
The program is for boys and girls going into grades 1 through 6 and girls and boys going into grades 9 through 12. It is under the direction of girls' varsity coach Tom Roos. Guest coaches will include past professional players, collegiate standouts and college coaches. Early registration deadline is July 13. LAR offers lacrosse
Lakes Area Recreation will offer a new lacrosse program for kids in grades 3 through 8.
The eight-session program starts July 30 and runs through August 22 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Voyager Elementary School. The program will give kids the chance to participate in different drills, skills and scrimmages with their teammates.

Brandon 5K for Jordan Nohre
Brandon-Evansville coaches are hosting a 5K run/walk and a free kids' 1K run to benefit Jordan Nohre and her family.
Nohre, a 7th grader from Evansville, was recently diagnosed with leukemia. She will be receiving three rounds of chemotherapy through the summer months.
The race to raise money and honor her family will be held August 3 during Brandon Summerfest and will start behind Gardonville at 8 a.m. Registration will be from 7:15-7:55. The cost for the 5K is $20 per person and $10 for those younger than 10. Registration also includes a T-shirt. A free kids' 1K will follow the 5K at approximately 9:15.
MCGA offers free admission to Viking Speedway
There will be free admission to the Viking Speedway races on July 27 thanks to a Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) Jam the Stands promotion.
The MCGA and other local sponsors are helping to offer free admission at nine tracks around the state, including the Viking Speedway on July 27. Fans will also have an opportunity to win one of two $50 Visa gift cards throughout the evening and learn more about ethanol and renewable fuels by stepping inside the Biofuels Mobile Education Center.
Racing starts at 6 p.m. that night.
Harvest Duathlon race
The third annual Harvest Duathlon will take place August 31 at 9 a.m. at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria.
The race consists of a 2.5-mile run, a 13-mile bike ride followed by another 2.3-mile run. There are a maximum of 200 entries for the race. There will also be a kids' duathlon on Friday, August 30 at 6 p.m. for kids ages 2-10.

Parent/daughter fun shoot
The local Pheasants Forever chapter and the Viking Sportsmen will team up to host a parent/daughter fun shoot on July 16 at 6 p.m.
The event will take place at the Alexandria Shooting Park. Free clays, shells and a meal are included. The parent and daughter, ages 12-17, will both be allowed to shoot. Guns will be available to those who don't have their own gun to bring.

Swing for kids
The Alexandria Area YMCA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold a golf scramble at the Alexandria Golf Club as a fundraiser for the YMCA financial assistance program and the FCA camp scholarships.
Cost is $125 per individual and $500 per team. Registration includes golf, cart, dinner and program.

Fall dance team program
Lakes Area Recreation will hold dance team training for girls in grades 7-12 with no tryouts necessary.
The program will serve as a starting point and training for dancers who are either interested in or part of the winter competitive Cardinal dance team.
Basic jazz and kick techniques as well as endurance and stretching will be part of the practices, which will culminate in a performance at a Cardinal football game this fall.

Softball tournament in Little Falls
The second annual Michael "Lody" Lodermeier Memorial softball tournament, set for Saturday, July 27 in Little Falls, is looking for teams.
The double-elimination tournament will be at the Lindbergh Lions Recreational Complex softball fields at 8th Street and 2nd Avenue Southwest. Games begin at 9 a.m.
Cost is $150 per team with the prize money determined by the number of entrants.

Holy Moly Ole Series
Lakes Area Recreation will again hold the Holy Moly Ole series of races, with all proceeds going directly to youth programs and scholarships.
Races will be held on Saturdays, July 20 and August 10 and will feature a 5K run, 10K run and family 5K walk. The final event will also feature a 15K run.
Cost is $20 per runner, $15 for the family 5K walkers and $10 for individual 5K walkers.
