Sports roundup from the weekend
Alexandria 5, Detroit Lakes 0
The Alexandria girls' soccer team evened its record at 1-1 on the season after taking care of Detroit Lakes with ease in the Cardinals' first home game of the season.
Alexandria wasted no time setting the tone in this one as Chelsey Salto connected not long after the opening whistle. That was the first of four goals in the opening half for Alexandria. Anna Spanbauer scored next, her first of two goals on the day, while Emily Korkowski and Rachel Drew added goals before halftime, as well. Spanbauer then put the finishing touches on things when Drew set her up for a goal that made it 5-0.
The defense made things pretty easy on senior goaltender Sarah Bruzek by not giving the Lakers many clean looks at the net. Bruzek made sure nothing got past her as she finished with the shutout after holding St. Louis Park to just one goal in a 1-0 loss on Thursday.
TENNIS (From Friday, August 23)
Osakis 7, LPGE 0; Osakis 7, Little Falls 0; Osakis 7, Benson-KMS 0
The Osakis tennis team made easy work of everyone in their path at the Long Prairie quadrangular on Friday.
The Silverstreaks once again showed the depth of their roster as just two matches went to three sets all day. Osakis finished off the other 19 in straight sets as the Silverstreaks improved to 6-0 already on the season.
