It took Bemidji four innings to solve the riddle of Alexandria right-handed pitcher Danny Kuhn but the Legion baseball team's bats eventually came to life. Ryan Hirt’s walk to open the home fifth sparked Bemidji to four runs in its final two at-bats and that late surge gave the Legion a 4-1 victory in the opening game of Wednesday’s doubleheader at the BSU diamond.

BLUE ANCHORS BASEBALL

Alexandria 6, St. Cloud 5

The Alexandria Blue Anchors improved to 7-22 on the season with a 6-5 comeback win over St. Cloud at Knute Nelson Ballpark.

Alexandria trailed 4-0 after five innings before the Blue Anchors started to battle back. Craig Nennig started things with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. They loaded the bases in the seventh with one out and Cam Duzenack hit a ground ball for what could have been an inning-ending double play. Instead, the throw to first got away and allowed Roman Collins and Ryan Busch to score.

Nennig started another rally in the eighth with a leadoff double. Jordan Lee drove him in before Collins hit a double to drive in Lee and make it a 5-4 game. Busch then added an insurance run to make it 6-4.

The Rox added one more in the ninth inning, but Kevin Walsh punched out the final man he faced to secure the win.

Lee had his fifth straight two-hit game on Wednesday and upped his average to .411 in 56 at-bats. Nennig, Collins and Busch all had two hits apiece as well.

Sean Terres got the win for Alexandria. He kept his team in the game in 4 1/3 innings where he allowed two runs on two hits with two strikeouts.

Alexandria will be back on the road tonight, Thursday, when the Blue Anchors go to Mankato to play the MoonDogs at 7:05 p.m.
