Alexandria at Melrose Quad: Becker 4, Alexandria 3; Alexandria 5, Melrose 2; Alexandria 6, LPGE 1

The Alexandria girls' tennis team kicked off their season by collecting two wins at the Melrose quadrangular on Wednesday. The Cardinals bounced back from a 4-3 loss to Becker in the opening match to beat Melrose 5-2 and LPGE 6-1.


Ellie Bergstrand anchored the top singles spot for Alexandria and got three wins on the day. Her toughest came against Melrose, where she persevered for a 7-5, 0-6 (10-7) win. Bria Schueler also got three wins in the singles lineup as she used a third set to beat her Melrose opponent surrounded by two straight-set victories.

The duo of Hannah Vickstrom and Abby Telander won all of their matches at third doubles in similar fashion. Vickstrom and Telander beat their Melrose opponent 5-7, 6-1, (10-8) in between two straight-set victories.

Osakis at Staples-Motley Tournament

The third-ranked Osakis tennis team won its first tournament of the season as the Silverstreaks fended off host Staples-Motley by three points in the Staples-Motley tournament.

Osakis finished with a total of 58 team points, while Staples-Motley finished with 55. West Central Area also competed in the tourney, finishing sixth out of the eight teams with a total of 29 points.
