VFW BASEBALL DISTRICT 5 CHAMPIONSHIP
The Alexandria VFW 16s had to resume a game they started on Monday night but it proved worth the way as they ran away with a 16-5 win over Starbuck to punch their ticket to the state tournament last night.
A game that started in Spicer on Monday picked up at Minnewaska Area High School as the 16s added five more runs over the final two innings. Danny Kuhn worked last night and allowed just two hits. Cole McLaughlin was credited with the win after throwing four innings on Monday.
Alexandria used five run innings in the first and third frames on Monday night to set the tone in this one. Casey Hammerback had a big game with three hits and four RBIs. Kaden Anderson added two hits. Cody Weisel added three singles and three RBIs, while Brayden Amundson, Kris Setterstrom and Spencer Lucas each added two hits apiece.
The Alexandria 16s will take a 30-11 record into the state tournament next Thursday. They will head north for the tournament and take on the host team, Ely, in Ely at noon to open things up.
La Crosse 10, Alexandria 2
The La Crosse Loggers used two pitches to throw a combined two-hitter in a 10-0 win over Alexandria on Tuesday night.
Onas Farfan threw four perfect innings of relief to close things out. He struck out four after Cale Henke threw the first five innings, allowing two hits and four walks.
Albert Baur and Aaron Gretz had the only hits for Alexandria. Both were singles as the Blue Anchors dropped to 9-14 in the second half of the season.
