VOLLEYBALL

Marshall 3, Alexandria 0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-16)

The Cardinal volleyball team had things going early on in game one before falling 25-23 in what became a sweep for the Class AA's top-ranked team in Marshall.

The Tigers cruised after that slow start, winning 25-11 and 25-16 to finish things off. Marshall had five players with at least five kills on the night. Alexandria was led at the net by Amanda Christianson with six kills, while Emily Kuennen added five. Amanda Haack had 22 assists and seven digs.

Henning 3, Brandon-Evansville 0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-16)

Caroline Jansen had 11 kills for Brandon-Evansville, but it wasn't enough to hold off a strong Henning team in a 3-0 loss for the Chargers on opening night.

The Hornets grabbed a 25-16 win in games one and three in between holding off the Chargers 25-23 in the second. Kinsley Randt had 19 assists for the Chargers, while Megan Kokett led the defense with 14 digs. 

WCA 3, UNDERWOOD 2 (25-18, 25-23, 26-28, 22-25, 16-14)

The Knights persevered for a five-set win over Underwood on Tuesday by taking the fifth set 16-14 after almost watching a two-set advantage slip away. 

Alysa Aanerud led the Knighst with 13 kills, while Holly Van Kempen added 10. Christina Kruize set them up with 23 assists on the night, while Courtney Lock and Tiana Christenson each had 16 digs.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Melrose 127, Alexandria 59

The Melrose swimming and diving team collected wins in every event on Tuesday night as they swam past Alexandria by a score of 127-59.

Madalyn Winger had the highest individual finish for the Cardinals. She took second in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:45.97. The 200-freestyle relay team of Megan Bristow, Jaylen Olson-Rodel, Macy Hatlestad and Heidi Moe took second (1:52.67) and the 400-freestyle relay team of Kate LeBrasseur, Bailey Serum, Hatlestad and Winger also took second (4:07.47).
