WCA 60, Ashby 27

The West Central Area girls got off to a good start in a 60-27 win over Ashby in the season opener on Monday night.

Holly Van Kempen had a lot to do with that as she finished with 26 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist. Abby Van Kempen added a double-double with 10 points, 16 rebounds and four assists. The Arrows had no answer for that as Cassandra Jordan was the only Ashby player in double figures with 14.

"Overall, we are really happy with how the girls played," WCA head coach Beth Hill said. "They came out and did the things we have worked on at practice and played with a lot of intensity. Defensively, we looked strong. In the first half, Ashby was only able to get 10 shots off. We were in good stances and closing out well."
