Spanbauer dominates in Apollo win
Alexandria's Anna Spanbauer had herself a game to remember in a 5-0 win over St. Cloud Apollo last Thursday.
The senior forward had a hand in every goal as she finished with three goals herself and assisted on the other two. Spanbauer scored from 16 yards out in the first half to make it a 2-0 game early. She added two more in the second half, one on a corner kick she sent in that deflected off an Apollo defender and into the net and another on a corner kick from 20 yards out.
Karsen Granning got Alexandria on the board first with a shot from the top of the penalty area in the first half. Spanbauer scored next and then found Haley Burns, who finished from close range after receiving a pass to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead at the break.
That was plenty of offense for this Alexandria defense and keeper Sarah Bruzek. They combined for their third shutout of the season. Through a 4-1 start, Alexandria had only given up two goals.
