Social services seeks foster famiies
Douglas County Social Services is seeking families interested in providing foster care for children of all ages, especially teenagers.
A free workshop will be held for current foster and adoptive families as well as families interested in providing foster care. It will be held on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Douglas County Public Works Building, 526 Willow Drive, Alexandria.
This training will assist families in understanding "typical" adolescent development and behavior as well as the unique attributes of youth involved in the foster care system.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and explore strategies for understanding development, culture, communication, special needs and building relationships.
Presenter Laurie Sjodin-Ernste also led an informative workshop on attachment in Douglas County last fall.
