Snowmobile safety class offered to students
A snowmobile safety class for students will be held Saturday, December 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until done at New Life Church in Alexandria.
Students must prove completion of the snowmobile youth safety CD, and their full legal name must be on the application.
Anyone born after December 31, 1976 must have a snowmobile safety certificate. A child 11 years old may complete the course. However, they will not be able to get their certificate until their 12th birthday.
The instructions to receive a certificate are on the back of the yellow copy that was filled out to start the class. It will be returned upon completion. When students and their parents complete that process, they will owe the DNR $5 by payment of a credit card. Then they will be able to print off their certificate.
Students should come dressed for driving a snowmobile, including helmet, gloves, boots, face mask and snowmobile gear. No tennis shoes. Students may bring their own snowmobile or one will be provided. They must come prepared, knowing the pre-ride inspection and hand signals.
The class is taught by volunteer instructors.
Materials can be picked up at Ollie’s Service, 1213 Broadway, Alexandria; (320) 763-4455. A parent must sign the registration release form.
