Favorite Irish traditional ballads by Skilly and Duff are on the agenda for the free Red Willow Arts Coalition concert on Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse lawn in Alexandria, according to Chuck Wencl, spokesperson for the event.

The show will feature Mikko Cowdery on guitar and banjo, Annie O’Flynn on accordion and piano, Wencl on pennywhistles, and regional musician Bryan Poyzer on bass.

This will be the first public concert for the Skilly and Duff Irish Band since the passing of founding member Bruce Kelly in May, according to Cowdery.

“It won’t be the same without Bruce,” he said. “Kelly was a wonderful singer and excellent musician and a masterful storyteller, and it just won’t be the same without him.”

The show will include many of the all-time favorite Irish ballads like My Wild Irish Rose, Danny Boy, When Irish Eyes are Smilin’, Toora Loora Loora, Molly Malone and more.

Other traditional songs will range from ballads to novelty songs to Irish rebel tunes. The show will also include a mixture of jokes, toasts and stories.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of inclement weather, listen to KXRA 1490 AM for cancellation information.

The Red Willow Arts Coalition is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide the community with access to more musical experiences.

This activity is funded in part by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council with McKnight Foundation funding.

The series sponsors are Anderson Funeral Home and Elden’s Fresh Foods. The nightly sponsor is Colorful Seasons.
