Skål Klubben is a Scandinavian fiddling group from the Brainerd Lakes area. Founded in 1990, Skål Klubben is a “village folk orchestra” of 14 musicians that play traditional Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Danish music on fiddles, accordion, guitar, pump organ, recorder and double bass.

Skål Klubben has performed widely around the Midwest at Scandinavian-American festivals such as Nordic Fest in Decorah, Iowa, Ethnic Fest in Walker, and Scandinavian Days at Ironworld in Chisolm.

In 1995, Skål Klubben traveled to Sweden and Norway to learn tunes, fiddling styles and to perform a bit too. Skål Klubben was featured in the national broadcast of a documentary about American music called River of Song, Music on the Mississippi on PBS in December 1998.

Skål Klubben has three recordings to its credit. Its most recent live recording, entitled “Skål Klubben Saturday Night,” captures the quality of Skål Klubben’s old time dances. They often host visiting folk musicians from Sweden and Norway and are the host group for Nisswa-Stämman, a traditional festival of Scandinavian folk music in the Midwest.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of inclement weather, listen to KXRA 1490 AM for cancellation information.

The Red Willow Arts Coalition is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide the community with access to more musical experiences.

These activities are funded in part by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council with McKnight Foundation funding.

The series sponsors are Anderson Funeral Home and Elden’s Fresh Foods. The nightly sponsor is Trumm Drug.
