Silverstreaks match last year’s win total
The Osakis boys’ basketball team has already matched its season win total of three from a year ago after a 48-46 victory over Henning last Thursday night.
Osakis fell behind 6-0 early against Henning before battling back to tie the game at 25 apiece at the half.
“We made some adjustments on defense that got Henning out of their rhythm,” head coach Matt Hoelscher said. “We also had a great team effort. Some starters had foul trouble early and our bench picked up the slack and kept us in the game the first half.”
Freshman Zach Weir had a nice night with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Drew Fearing matched his 12 points and added a steal and two rebounds. Cody DeWenter and John Boogaard each added six points apiece.
“Weir had a great game both offensively and defensively,” Hoelscher said. “Fearing did what he always does for us and that’s be the leader on the floor. Our posts came up big and got us the rebounds we needed on defense and did not give them second opportunities to score.”
It was nice for this team to get the win, but even more important that it came in a close game. Osakis lost a close game to Swanville on December 10, but on Thursday they proved they could find a way to win a close game.
“The guys got to play in a tight game and we took care of the basketball, which is something we haven’t typically done,” Hoelscher said. “We are stepping in the right direction and that stems from our senior leadership.”
